Canon LEGRIA HF R66Compatible with European broadcast standards, the black PAL Canon LEGRIA HF R66 Full HD Camcorder is a compact, lightweight camcorder that features a 3.28-megapixel Full HD CMOS image sensor and a DIGIC DV 4 Image Processor. It is equipped with a Canon HD video lens with 32x optical zoom, 57x Advanced Zoom, and 1140x Digital Zoom and features Image Stabilization. You can record to the camera’s internal 8GB of memory, or to optional SD/SDHC/SDXC media cards, or transfer your video and stills from the camera’s internal memory to your media cards. For easy recording, playback, and menu navigation, the camera has a 3″ LCD touchscreen display. Other features include AVCHD and MP4 recording, Intelligent IS, Framing Assist, Slow and Fast recording, and an advanced Baby Mode.
For connectivity to your HDTV or high-resolution monitor, the HF R66 provides a mini-HDMI output. For improved audio monitoring, a headphone jack is available which also doubles as the analog audio/video output on the camera. The camera supports Wi-Fi and NFC connectivity, making it easy to share your footage with family and friends. If you want to give your home videos an interesting cinematic feel, you can employ one the HF R66’s seven Cinema-Look filters before you start shooting. You can also add one of these filters after you’ve finished recording. Each filter is adjustable as well, so you can dial in your choice for the perfect cinematic look for each recording.
- 3.28MP Full HD CMOS Image Sensor
- This model is equipped with a 3.28MP Full HD CMOS image sensor that supports 1920 x 1080 resolution video capture. Canon’s high-resolution HD CMOS sensor features extra sensitivity that delivers lifelike Full HD video with natural color – even in low light. On-chip noise reduction supports clarity in every frame, which means your video and photos will be vivid and clear – even when played back on a large HDTV.
- Powerful 57x Advanced Zoom
- Thanks to an impressive 57x Advanced Zoom range, long-range shooting is not a problem. You’ll be able to create videos with dynamic variety, and you’ll be less likely to disrupt the action you’re shooting. The Advanced Zoom is available in manual mode and has been achieved with more efficient use of the effective imaging area. It takes the camcorder’s focal length from 32.5mm all the way to 1853mm (35mm equivalent), which provides extraordinary flexibility in shooting.
- Optical Image Stabilization
- Intelligent Image Stabilization corrects camera shake instantly, so even handheld video taken at long focal lengths is sharp and steady. It automatically detects the scene and selects the right optical image stabilizer settings from four modes to counteract movement and prevent blur. Advanced dynamic mode corrects roll and tilt movements that can occur when walking, ensuring sharp, steady videos.
- DIGIC DV 4 Image Processor
- This camcorder incorporates an advanced Canon HD DIGIC DV 4 image processor for enhanced imaging performance. The increased performance allows for better noise reduction and leads to brighter, more noise-free images – even in dark scenes.
- AVCHD or MP4 Progressive Recording
- The camcorder supports Full HD 1920 x 1080/50p video capture using the AVCHD codec with a bitrate of 28 Mbps, as well as 1920 x 1080 50i/PF25 at bitrates of 24, 17, or 5 Mbps. You can also choose to record 1920 x 1080/50p using the MP4 video format at 35 Mbps, or 1920 x 1080/25p at 24, 17, or 4 Mbps.
- 3″ Touchscreen LCD
- This model features a 3″ touchscreen LCD display that makes recording and other operations easy. Opening the panel turns the power is on so you won’t miss a shot. A gentle touch activates the display’s intuitive functions. Choose a focal point, track moving subjects, control exposure for selected areas, and operate camcorder controls from the screen – all with a touch. In addition, the easy-to-use user interface makes your shooting experience simpler.
- Intelligent IS
- Intelligent IS makes it easy to shoot clear, sharply focused video – even in situations that typically cause camera shake. The Intelligent IS system analyzes the shooting situation for you, and then automatically switches to the image stabilization method best able to produce sharp, steady video. Four IS systems cover the gamut of shooting situations. Dynamic IS corrects minor movement and the shaking caused by walking while shooting. Macro IS delivers perfectly steady close-up shots. Powered IS comes into play when you’re using the camcorder’s powerful zoom, correcting shake that can occur in telephoto shots. Tripod mode stops IS when the camcorder is stationary.
- Wi-Fi & NFC
- Upload movies to your smart device and social media with built-in Wi-Fi. The camcorder also supports NFC, so you can hook-up and share footage directly with smart devices with just a simple touch. NFC also enables effortless connection with an optional Canon Connect Station, allowing content to be stored and then watched at leisure with family and friends on your TV.
- Slow and Fast Recording
- The camera allows you to record slow motion video that plays back at half speed. You can also record at a variety of undercranked or fast motion frame rates that yield 2x, 4x, 10x, 20x, 60x, 120x, and even 1200x sped up footage.
- Baby Mode
- Capture the first steps, first words, and other memories of up to three children as they grow using the advanced Baby Mode. Register each child’s date of birth in-camera, and add colorful stamps and animations to record height and weight. All footage is automatically saved to the relevant baby album. Baby mode also optimizes settings to make your baby’s skin appear with vibrant clarity. Baby mode is only available in AVCHD recording.

- Audio Scene Select offers five modes that automatically optimize settings based on the recording situation, making it easy to record realistic, immersive audio in a range of situations.
- Auto Exposure Mode
- Smart AUTO lets you capture clear, bright, well-focused video while the camcorder takes care of all the details. The system recognizes 38 shooting situations based on numerous factors, and then automatically chooses the optimal settings for the situation.

Baby Mode
- Auto Tele Macro
- Auto Tele Macro gives your video the effect of shallow depth of field with a well-focused subject against a blurred background.
- Cinema-Look Filters
- This feature offers a choice of seven varied built-in adjustable filters, which give the look of a variety of cinematic styles by compensating for the color, gamma and other aspects of the image’s quality. The looks can be previewed in the LCD monitor while shooting, and also applied post-capture for additional convenience and versatility. Choose from Cinema Standard, Old Movies, Vivid, Cool, Nostalgic, Dramatic Black & White, or Sepia. For even greater control, the brightness of each filter can be set to low, medium or high. When Cinema Standard is selected, color depth, softening and contrast can also be adjusted.
- Framing Assist
- By pressing and holding the search button, you can make the lens zoom out. Releasing the search button makes the lens zoom back in. This is useful when you are shooting with a long lens, and you lose track of your subject, and need to find it quickly.
- Audio Scene Select
- Make your movies sound as good as they look with Audio Scene Select. Select from five scene modes and audio settings are optimized automatically to match the scene you’re shooting. So whether you’re filming speech at a wedding or music at a concert, you can enjoy immersive, realistic audio.
